BAMBOO album released today! Plus MOSS LIME playing on Monday!

Afternoon everyone!
Today we’re over the moon to see our new release for BAMBOO head out into the world. Their debut album, entitled ‘Prince Pansori Priestess’ is now available in all good record shops and sounds invincible on 180g snow white vinyl. BAMBOO is an immaculate new project from Nick Carlisle (of Peepholes, Don’t Argue) and Rachel Horwood (of Trash Kit, Halo Halo). Their music is vivid and deeply poignant, locking into a magnetic attraction between between Rachel’s flawlessly resonant folk cadence and Nick’s pristine synth pop production.

Prince Pansori Priestess’ is the first album to see the light from this pairing of talents, its title referencing a Korean genre of musical storytelling alongside notions of majesty and faith that are all streams that weave their way through the record. At first pitched-banjo paces out a chiming circle allowing Rachel’s entrancing vocal to follow the line, then Nick’s pristine beats and tonal clusters of synth blossom into almost sub-aqua realms of lush swirling melody. It feels very pure, prismatic and even mystical at moments without losing any of its human touch.

You can listen to ‘Hexagonal’ which premiered on Noisey this week, or check out ‘Khene Song’ that the ever-brilliant 20 Jazz Funk Greats wrote about this morning, enjoy!

Today we’re also announcing a new show for PEGA MONSTRO in February next year, that’ll be our first date in 2016! After their seriously impressive show with Deerhoof this year, we can’t wait to see them again.

Whilst we’re talking shows, our next one falls on Monday at the Old Blue Last and promises to be a pitch perfect exercise in minimal palette post punk from MOSS LIME, AS ONDAS and WHALO all playing for just £5, “bargainous” I hear you cry! Should be a terrific night, read on for the whole story…

MOSS LIME are a Montreal based band, made up of sisters Charlotte Bonamour and Hélène Barbier from Lille, France, their former roommate Caitlin Pinder-Doede from Toronto. They spent the summer 2014 in Parc Petite Italie in Montréal, enjoying food and beverages from Lalime. One day they went to the swimming pool and another day they decided to play music together in a basement with a great dehumidifier. Inspired by local punk bands with similarly unpretentious starts, Moss Lime booked their first show at a neighbourhood bar, performing a short set of their four original songs and one cover song, an almost unrecognisable reinterpretation of European club hit “Calabria 2007″. At the end of the summer, a few days before Charlotte was supposed to move back to France, the group went to record with Peter Woodford (Freelove Fenner) at his and Caitlin Loney’s all-analog home studio, The Bottle Garden, with the intention of producing what they referred to as a “souvenir”, to document their short summer as a band, Fixture Records released the tape EP ‘July First’. After this, the band started getting offers to play shows with local bands and even landed a last-minute spot at this year’s POP Montreal festival. Moss Lime’s melodic minimalism, idiosyncratic vocals, and strong sense of play, as witnessed in this promising first collection of recordings, already shows signs of further experimentation to come. They will release their first LP in the next few weeks on Telephon Explosion.

AS ONDAS are a band with fresh ideas, featuring members of Dog Legs, Shopping and Wachi Wachi they start their race with a sprint. With a spartan drum, bass and guitar lineup, As Ondas deliver up a delirious, chorus-drenched prom punk alongside the occasional post punk meditation.

WHALO are a Swedish/English duo based in Nottingham with melancholic tendencies and a love for the DIY approach. After forming at the start of 2015, Whalo quietly released their debut EP “Sleepy” in September, a collection of hazy pop songs recorded in a cold Coventry garage. They are now gearing up to play a handful of live shows in the UK whilst slowly writing and recording material for a follow up.
